2000 Chase Season in Review
Hello everyone. I have finally found time in my busy schedule
to add this page to the site. Thanks for having patience.
The year 2000 had to be the worst chase season we have
had in some time. Mother nature just wasn't shaking our hands. It also happens to be the longest
chase season we have had. We chased on Halloween this year! This happens to be the reason
this section of the site hasn't been updated with any tornado chase footage.
Over the season, we chased numerous storms over Eastern
Nebraska and Western Iowa. One, near Madison Nebraska, produced a tornado, but by the time
we caught up to it, it was disappearing into the sky. Another, which produced numerous tornado
reports and warnings across Madison, Platte, Stanton, Colfax, Cumming, and Dodge counties,
decided to hang a sharp right once it enveloped us in dense rain and vibrant lighting. We were
able to see one tornado it produced to our south for about 5 seconds when the rain let up for a short
time before it disappeared in the rain again. We were seconds behind it, traveling in its small debris
path. We were able to capture a tornado in Nebraska from the Iowa side of the Missouri River looking
to our west, but we were a good 5+ miles from its location. We narrowly missed baseball sized hail
which accompanied that storm. With the exception of the chases mention, we had many storms
which produced beautiful lightning, clouds, and funnels, but no others produced a tornado for us.
We hope that the 2001 chase season will relent and put on
a show for us. If the winter we have had here so far, -0 temps and lots of snow, is an indicator, we
will have an excellent season.
Hoping for an excellent chase season,
Steve
