Cedar Bluffs Nebraska, 6/20/1997 This particular storm rapidly developed at about 5:00 PM northwest of Wahoo Nebraska. It had a very defined crown and eventually a very defined shelf. We originally traveled west towards the storm and eventually moved to the southeast of its location, south southeast of Cedar Bluffs. We watched the shelf gain definition and then moved farther west to intercept the developing wall cloud, which was on the southwest flank of the storm. We were located a mile south of the town of Cedar Bluffs when the storm produced a funnel directly over the town itself. I have relatives who live there who informed me that the air under that location was extremely heavy and that no sirens sounded in the town. The funnel teased us by rising and lowering for about twenty minutes. Shortly after its final curtain call, the wall cloud lost its definition and the storm lost its potentcy due to bigger storms 50 miles northwest of our location. |
