Fremont /Arlington Nebraska, Easter 1998 This storm began to develop at about 4:00 PM and began to work its way east accross Eastern Nebraska. My partner Cynthia Bade and I made our way to the north side of Fremont just to take a look at what was going on. When we got out of the tree clutter, we observed a developing wall cloud west of Fremont, time approximately 5:30 PM. During the course of about a half hour, the wall cloud moved over the northern part of Fremont, at which time it was not even raining in the town. A tornado warning was issued for Dodge county by NWS, no sirens sounded in Fremont. We decided to move pararllel to the storm on highway 30 and head east towards Arlington. At around 6:29 PM we were about 1 1/2 miles east of Fremont when I observed the formation of mid level clouds which then extended to the base of the wall cloud. This funnel came extremely close to touching the ground, however, it never did. We ended the chase by following the storm into Iowa at which time it became to dark to film or observe the storm very well. |
